" Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today inaugurated the Cancer treatment center in the Royapettah government hospital through video conferencing from the state secretariat in Chennai. The center has been built by the Health and Family welfare department at a cost of 17 crore rupees. "

In a media release today, the Tamil Nadu government said that the government led by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had been taking various steps including setting up of new hospitals, primary health centers etc to provide quality medical service to the people. Ms. Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Cancer treatment center set up at the Royapettah government hospital in Chennai at a cost of 17 crore rupees.


New buildings have been constructed for the use of 8 departments in the Madras Medical College at a cost of 56.63 crore rupees. Special Maternity Center has been set up at a cost of 16.65 crore rupees at the Kasturibai Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai. Additional buildings have been constructed at a cost of 36.29 crore rupees for the Stanley, Kilpauk and Chengelpet Medical colleges functioning under the Directorate of Medical Education. The Chief Minister inaugurated all these new buildings today.


This apart, she inaugurated the Health and Family Welfare Training center set up at Egmore in Chennai at a cost of 7 crore rupees. Training classes and workshops for the doctors, nurses and other staff of the Public health and preventive medicine department will be held at this centre.


Ms. Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Child welfare ward set up at the Government General Hospital in Erode built at a cost of 14.83 crore rupees by the directorate of Medical and Rural health services.


Other new buildings inaugurated by the Chief Minister include the maternity wing in government hospitals at Bhavani, Perundurai, Andhiyur, and Sathyamangalam, and the Government General Hospitals at Tiruppur, Kangeyam, and Karadivaavi.


Maternity wing, Child welfare ward, at Cuddalore district Government Hospital, Out patient ward, In patient ward and Operation theatre built under the Chief Minister's comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme in Chidambaram government taluk hospital, maternity ward at the Pennagaram Government Hospital in Dharmapuri district, Maternity ward, operation theatre at Kallakuruchi government hospital in Villupuram district, and Maternity ward in Virudhunagar district government hospital were also inaugurated by the Chief Minister.


New Buildings constructed for the office of the Deputy director of Health department in Tiruchy and Krishnagiri, new buildings for Primary Health centers in the districts of Villupuram , Tiruvannamalai , Tiruppur, Salem, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Tanjavore were also inaugurated by the Chief Minister. Ms. Jayalalithaa inaugurated new buildings for 16 primary health centers, and 2 office buildings for deputy director of Health department built at a cost of 4.12 crore rupees.


In all, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa inaugurated 41 new buildings built at a cost of 152.52 crore rupees.
