In a statement released today, Ms Jayalalithaa said that welfare of the people played an important role in determining the human development of a state. It would not be an exaggeration to state that protection of health and sanitation is the foundation for the welfare of the people. She said that the sanitation which played such an important role was totally not present under the minority DMK government. As a consequence the people of Tamil Nadu were being subjected to various dieseases and mystery fever.
Ms Jayalalithaa said that none of the sanitation works were being carried out properly ever since the minority DMK government assumed office in Tamil Nadu. As a consequence, the people of Tamil Nadu had been affected by various diseases including Chickun Guniea, Dengue, and Swine Flu and hundreds had lost their lives.
Ms Jayalalithaa said that the breeding of mosquitoes had increased multifold in Chennai in the past few months. Due to the increase of mosquitoes, the education of students who were about to appear for their final exams was severely affected. Their misery was compounded further when powercuts occured.
All the roadside shops and Parks in Chennai were in the grip of the mosquitoes. Vehicle drivers and pedestrians were being subjected to severe hardships due to the mosquitoe menace. A mystery viral fever outbreak has been caused by the mosquitoes and large number of people have been affected by the fever in the north Chennai district. She said that she was receiving information that poor and indigent people were facing the situation of having to undergo treatment for several months and as a result their everyday life was affected severely.
The affected people were charging that the stagnation of drainage water, sewage water mixing with drinking water, and the failure of the minority DMK government to take steps to erradicate the mosquitoes, and to extend the necessary sanitation and to extend safe drinking water were the main reason for this.
Ms Jayalalithaa announced that a protest demonstration would be held on behalf of the North Chennai district unit of the AIADMK on the 2nd of next month in front of the Chennai district collector's office to condemn the minority DMK government which by not taking steps to erradicate mosquitoes and not supplying safe drinking water, was responsible for the people being subjected to various diseases including a mysterious viral fever. The demonstration would also urge the minority DMK government to take immediate steps to erradicate the mosquitoe menace and to supply safe drinking water and to take steps to prevent the mysterious fever.
Ms Jayalalithaa said that the demonstration would be led by the party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan in the presence of the north Chennai district AIADMK secretary P K Shekar Babu.
She asked the north chennai district party functionaries, district office bearers, functionaries of the various wings of the party in the district, and party cadres to participate in the demonstration in large numbers.
Ms Jayalalithaa appealed to the people, particularly women to participate in the protest demonstration which has been organised for a cause of public welfare.
